Lidl GB’s plans for a new foodstore off Market Place in Adlington are progressing, with updated plans submitted to Chorley Council.
A new Lidl store on this site in the heart of Adlington would increase local shopping choice, create up to 40 new local jobs, and provide Lidl’s high quality products at best value. A Lidl here would also help residents who may currently travel out of area for their regular shop.

A new Lidl on this site would provide a much-needed supermarket for Adlington and save on journey times for residents who may currently have to travel out of area for their weekly shop.
Background
Lidl submitted plans for a new foodstore for Adlington in 2022 following significant community support. Since then, the plans were delayed due to challenges around site access, which has caused the proposals to pause.
We are delighted that the plans are now progressing again, with slightly amended plans submitted in Summer 2024. The amends include to the store which would now be built to Lidl’s very latest and most sustainable store format.
The proposals
Lidl has submitted updated plans for a store on Market Place in Adlington. The proposals include:
This site is well located at the heart of Adlington and is easily accessible from the railway station. It is well connected to the wider local footpath network.
Lidl will provide cycle parking in a highly visible location at the front of the store.
The site is well-located for the bus network, with a bus stop outside the site on Market Place. Adlington rail station is also adjacent to the site.
Access
The proposed Lidl would be accessed via Market Place. The service area will be accessed via Back Railway View, and we anticipate there will be usually one delivery per day.
Highways
The planning application will include a detailed Transport Assessment, which will be reviewed by Lancashire County Council’s highways team. The Transport Assessment will take into consideration factors such as Lidl’s expected busiest periods.
